one last rare political post.

my fingers are itching to type so many things, but right now i'm annoyed and irritated and feeling a bit passive aggressive. so i'm going to try to keep this as even-tempered as i can.

i will say that Obama was not my choice for President. McCain was not my choice for President. i would have been disappointed no matter who won. i don't have faith (blind or otherwise) in any politician to think they are truly looking out for me, my friends or my family. i guess that's the pessimist in me. i'm glad some of you do have that faith and i truly hope you aren't dissapointed in 2 years...or 4. i hope he lives up to those expectations and promises. i really do.

that being said, i'd like to remind people that four years ago, quite a few Democrats threatened to "move to Canada" or whatever and though i roll my eyes at that sentiment, it is people's right to be upset that their candidate didn't win and make empty threats. it's human nature to say the most dramatic thing when we're upset and want to take out our frustrations.

so i guess i'm just trying to say that so much of what i see Republicans posting today is equivalent to what i saw from the Democrats four and eight years ago. so...you know, glass houses and all that jazz. be kind to each other. Republicans aren't the devil. Democrats aren't the Anti-Christ. we all just want to believe that the people we choose to support are going to do right by us.

Um, I don't think it's unfair to point out the amusing lack of logic of the small group of Republicans decrying Obama as socialist and wanting to flee to Canada of all places, what with its universal healthcare and all. At least in '04 the Dems overblown ridiculous vows made some kind of sense in that Canada would be a good place to seek refuge for a liberal.

[identity profile] tiggz.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
it would be a bit more logical for a Democrat to say they were moving to Canada. however, Democrat does not equal Socialist. i don't think a lot of the Democrats who were threatening that four years ago were all that concerned with healthcare so much as they just hated George Bush and what four more years of him would mean.

(Anonymous) 2008-11-05 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it was more the fact that after Bush was already racking up a massive amount of debt in four years, we got another four years for him to screw us over even further.

And Obama does not equal socialist. Just saying, I am tired of people saying this will become a socialist country. Socialist countries tax the poor and give to the rich, not the other way around. And for the record, I make more then 250,000 a year, I will be paying higher taxes, and I can handle that. It won't end up with me in the poor house, anything but that actually. I probably won't buy that third game console that I didn't really need, I can live with that. And hopefully Obama sticks to his word and withdrawals the troops, I wouldn't mind seeing my brothers come home in one piece.

Oh, and I love you icons. I love James McAvoy so much!

i don't have faith (blind or otherwise) in any politician to think they are truly looking out for me, my friends or my family.

Sadly, I think you're right: there is probably no such politician. But still I sorta hope tha there are those who can do alight, at least.

[identity profile] tiggz.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
i hope so too. i really do.

[identity profile] buffyx.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh and passive aggressiveness is not an attractive quality. Especially when it is really obvious.

[identity profile] tiggz.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
if you're referring to my and your facebook status, your's is hardly the only one i've seen saying something of that nature and your's wasn't the only one mine was directed at. there are quite a few people at work today that i'd like to choke.

as for defriending me, that's your choice. i've always been extremely tolerant of what you've had to say over the years and yet the first time i express myself you defriend me? okay then. i'll see you around.

[identity profile] buffyx.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Before you wrote this I had already sent you a private message explaining why I defriended you. But if that is what you want to believe, that is fine.

Yeah, because by-the-by insults posted in a person's LJ are so much more attractive, aren't they, chicka? Sorry, Tiggy, I don't mean to jump in with my bitchy pants, but you have every right to post your own thoughts in your LJ without having someone come in and act like there's something wrong with your doing so.

did i get here in time for a catfight? i'm in. :)

[identity profile] ducky01.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi, Denise! Cat versus duck? You know I still got the slappy-foot maneuver, from which there is no defense. *G* I guess it's just force of habit - somebody says something mean to my friend, and I just wanna put on my armband and begin the whooping. I'll be nice now.

Although it is kind of funny for Republicans to talk about moving to Canada, I do get you.

I'm having trouble dealing with my flist acting like Good just triumphed over Evil. And it's not like I supported McCain. I didn't. I didn't vote for him. But I didn't gloat about the elections in years past (although, to be fair, I've never been all that happy with the winner, even when it's someone I voted for). And I definitely think it's weird how many people are treating Obama as the Second Coming.

I didn't like either of them and have refrained from tipping my hat one way or the other. My sadness to comments involve death threats, use of racial slurs, comments about revelations, name calling of voters, etc. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't remember that happening last 4 or 8 years, but I wasn't as politically aware. I am just scared that this is going to rip the country apart, and to see how far we still have to come to fight hatred is very, very sad.

[identity profile] ducky01.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm one of the Republicans that voted for Obama. And, like you, I hope Obama does live up to our expectations. There is no doubt that there are going to be a lot of Monday morning quarterbacks out there complaining, condemning and criticizing Obama before he's even been sworn in. That's happened to practically every President-elect throughout our history. I personally believe that's one of the problems with the two-party system, the intense differences keep us from being united when unity is the one thing we need the most.

I can understand that his opponenents were disappointed, and that they have some fears now over what will happen next. And, because of this, I can forgive a lot of the negativity that will be coming out for the next little while.

It's just politics. And, my friends are more impoortant than politics, even when we don't agree. *Hugs*

I'll fully admit to having made some move-to-Canada "threats" this time around, but I'll also admit to them being (largely) in jest. However, I do have a desire to move to Canada, and politics has nothing at all to do with that desire. So I'd joke that the election could possibly put that desired move into motion. ;)

As long as the sentiments echoed aren't too over the top (to where they become truly offensive) from either side, I don't mind 'em. People are entitled to voice both their pleasure and displeasure.

Oh, and on a note completely irrelevant to anything politic, in class today, I mentioned your boss' plan to charge the higher rate based on shipping not ordering. I thought my teacher was going to have a fit at how horribly flawed that logic was. Hahah. ;)

I preferred Obama as the choice of President, but much because I preferred the way I hope he will act as president. Both candidates avoided mudslinging at each other and I personally think that McCain was not helped by having Sarah Palin riling everyone up with her comments about Obama 'pal-ling around with terrorists' (i'm not sure I spelt that right!). McCain seemed to spend some time defending Obama even in his concession speech. I actually liked McCain for that, I think he's a pretty decent guy, I just hope that the section of his supporters that think Obama is a Muslim and a terrorist and that the end has come will see the good that Obama can do.

[identity profile] egoboy1.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
You are completely right :) And must say you conveid (sp) your opinion perfectly. That being said, I did prefer Obama somewhat, as I thought McCain would change nothing, wouldn't live out his term, and then you would have Palin. ANd don't get me started on her.

This being said, I hope that Obama won't fail miserably. Not only did he promise a lot, a lot of his being being picked I think, has to do with the fact that your country seriously has gone to hell the past 8 years and people are so desperate for better times, and change that they had to pick him because Obama has been portrayed as the great new hope. Expectations will be HUGE and there is no way the current problems are going to be fixed in the next 4 years. It'll get worse . Taxes will rise no matter what was promised, gas prices will definetly go up. Unemployment will rise, and your economy will fall.

But I hope that people will see through this, and realise this is a neccessary downswing, and that your country can rebuild as a whole.

Except for all the people in california who voted against gay marriage , they should die a painfull death :)

How are you ? :)

xx
