i may be alone in this, but i thought that finale sucked. as an episode, it was fine. as a finale? sucked up one way and blew down the other. JJ is incapable of giving us any answers and that is infuriating to me. the whole point of a season finale is to wrap up the season's stories/arcs/mysteries. did we get any of that? no. just more questions and cliffhangers with a little bit of needless flashback thrown in.

gah! i should have known...

next year, it totally won't be a question. watch Veronica Mars live, tape Lost.

I think the thing is - Lost isn't a show that will really have a different arc per season - they're stuck on the island, so that's an ongoing thing.

I think, to me, it's a show that kind of defies what a standard show is like, and that's what I like about it, so the finale was kind of on par with what I expected.

Sorry you didn't like it tho - I would definitely suggest checking in next season tho.

to me, loved it....we know who the others are, what they wanted, and we know just a little more about the monster...deffinitely mechanical...and underground parts!

and the hatch is OPEN!!!!!!

I guess I enjoyed this as an episode. it was funny, sad, and scary all at the same time.

But it's frustrating that there is no closure. I was just writing somewhere else that after 4 years of Alias, I still have no idea what the red spinning ball is/does and that bugs me. We should have answered that question 3 seasons ago and moved on to a blue spinning ball, or something else.

I hope Lost doesn't turn out to be the same way. I don't want to still be wondering about the hatch, the numbers, and the Others 3 years from now.

Can't agree with you on this one. I loved this episode...as an episode and a finale. Just what I wanted from this show. LOST can't be compared to anything else, so its finale shouldn't be like anything else. There can't be any closure unless they are rescued. There are no story arcs, because we haven't even heard "the rest of the story" on the initial core characters. For instance - why is Locke in a wheelchair? Why was Kate on the run in the first place? etc. So, cliffhanger is exactly what I expected ... closure would have been to cliche for this show.

Alas - I still have no access to UPN, so I won't be able to watch VM. Good thing I don't have to choose.

Of course I remembered something else I wanted to say *after* I posted. LOST played a smart move - they didn't give away much so people will tune in next season to get more of the little tidbits of "explanation" that will be doled out.

Alias' finale was kind of lame I thought. That ending was a complete James Bond ripoff. And an obvious setup for Garner to be out next season while she's pregnant. If was a long-time fan of that show, I would be way more upset by that finale than by LOST.

Just my $.02 (or is this $.04) worth.

I liked it. I thought there were a few surprises but I also knew the cliffhanger would be on the hatch, we probably wouldn't find anything out, they've been going on and on about showing us the monster and THAT WAS IT??? Also, the end, with the kill-time montage just pissed me off.

But, I still liked it.

See, I feel the opposite. I like VM but if given the choice I would rather watch LOST, so I will be tapping VM.

I didn't even think about not really getting any answers until I started reading a few people say that. I don't need anything answered right away as long as they keep developing the storylines and they did that. We know more about "the others", they got the hatch open to start exploring, we know they want Walt and not the baby and a few other things. I want cliffhaners otherwise I wouldn't care until it came back on and I wouldn't be as excited. But that's just me.

Hmm. Maybe it's safer to say they don't want the baby *yet*. Ethan was certainly interested enough to kidnap Claire and kill people and whatnot.

Speculation: maybe they had problems taking Alex so early when they stole her from Danielle sixteen years ago? Wee little babies need their mummies, after all. Which would explain why Ethan took Claire before the child was born. So perhaps now they have decided to wait (since taking Claire didn't work out so well) and take Aaron once he's old enough to eat solid food?

See I think once they had Claire they realized it wasn't the "right" kid. They did return/let her go her with baby still intact. If they had really wanted that baby, they could've taken it and Claire would have been collateral damage.

Just my thoughts.

Ahh, but Ethan came back after her. So my guess would be that she escaped. (Hey, even scary evil quasi-pirates screw up sometimes.) When they couldn't get her back before the baby was born, they put the "get the wee niblet" plan on the backburner for a while. Babies are a lot easier to take care of when you have Mummy around to feed them. :)

But, y'know, theory. :)

You're certainly not alone, but I'm not with you. I think someone above made a good point. Lost isn't like other shows; it didn't have a very clearcut season-long arc. Things just keep happening on this funky island. I thought it was great.

I liked it.

Then again, I am apparently a sick and twisted enough individual that I laughed hysterically at the exploding science teacher.

I am a bad, bad person. So very bad.

Oh my sweetie cutie head. You've been Abramed.

Fury once told me that JJ is interested in questions, Joss is interested in answers.

One isn't really better or worse than the other, I think, except for me, I can't lend my heart to a story with mostly the former.

LOST, to me, was never great television. It's fairly entertaining, but I'm of the mind that no, the writers don't really have A Plan, and yes, we'll see writing painted into corners and resets and such. Knowing that, I can catch an episode of LOST and feel like it hasn't been any sort of waste.

I think it should have ended with the raft floating off last week. This was a season opener, really, and most of it could have been cut.

I sit by you and share some sweet tea for consolation.

This show is more of a warm breeze, not so much a lifestyle choice.

But then, nothing has come close to meaning more to me than my Buffy, so I'm decidedly biased.

Did I tell you I got a new writing gig for SMRT-TV.com? Except I can't think of anything to write. Damn.

You're not alone. And I actually agree with you. I'm gonna do a post a little later in my own LJ detailing why, but... yeah. Lost has been jerking me around since "All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues" and I feel like over that first long hiatus, they kind of... no pun intended here, but lost something. Whether it was my interest, the thread of the story, or what, but evern since they've come back, it felt like they were floundering. Boone's death was the capper on that for me, but I finished the season in hope of finding some answers, at least.

Instead, I got characters that weren't acting like themselves, a hell of a lot more questions than I got answers, and two hours of my life wasted that I wish I could have gotten back.

No no, you have to tape the show you like better, so you can re-watch if you need to! Or in case something happens while you're watching live, like someone calls from the emergency room.

"Hints from Hilary" :)
