so after the debacle last night with the possibility of them changing the dates for the con, a couple of people managed to get themselves banned. how interesting that those people were the ones who were the most vocal about not wanting the dates changed because they had already bought plane tickets or had other commitments for the weekend they were thinking of rescheduling the con. i just wrote the following post there. the post before it that i was essentially responding to was deleted before my post even made it there. so i'm guessing mine will follow the same path. silencing of freedom of speech once again. gotta love it. i hate fucking internet dictators. argh!
i know i'm relatively new to this forum, but i'm hardly new to the buffy fandom or online arguments. in saying that, i have to agree with mistermcdicker.
i find it highly interesting that the three people most vocal about not wanting the date changed were the ones banned. i didn't see them attacking other posters. they were simply vehemently stating their opinions. if i wasn't from nashville and i had already bought airfare and whatnot i would've been pretty aggressive with my opinion as well. it's a bit late in the game to change the date, is it not? especially after making a thread not very long ago that urged people not to attend a con for one guest. essentially it was hypocritical. yes, Vulkon is ultimately a business and you have to make decisions that will be financially sound for you, but you also don't want to alienate your customers.
to be quite honest i haven't had the best experience with the people in this forum. i've felt that i was posted to in a condescending manner and just overall not felt welcome. i was going to try to get to know some of you before the con, but that was pretty much ruined and not really by any of the regular posters here. more by the staff. i've asked questions with no response. or i've asked questions and been talked down to...or at least it felt that way to me. my boyfriend also had the same experience via email. so i know it's not just me. i just want Fernando and Joe to realize that even when they don't realize it, they are representing Vulkon to me and others.
anyway...my point is, after my little tangent, that those people should not have been banned for voicing their opinions. a warning, maybe. banned? absolutely not. especially when the second thread was designed to be a vent thread. i've seen flame wars and what happened last night was not it. it was just people debating a very important topic with a lot of fervor.

Date: 2003-09-25 07:32 pm (UTC)i understand your perspective...and changing things at the last minute (almost) is a bad business move. i agree.
what you need to understand, without naming names...
(i have not been there tonight to see who all was banned, but i can guess)
the people who probably got banned, got that way for stirring up trouble.
a few of the more vocal ones are notorious for causing trouble...
that explains why the mods banned them.
these are very possibly the same group that has tried to fecked things up
over in the UK for one of the con organizers.
(as a matter of fact, these same people got banned from a few other forums in the past. wrong or right, they do have a track record.)
as for your treatment...it does surprise me that Fernando or Joe were rude to you.
it could be that they thought you were one of that other group. there is not an excuse for your treatment, i agree.
they need to treat everyone like the potential customer that they are.
i had a good experience with Joe and Fernando in Tampa. they were very polite and accomodating to me and my group.
they made every effort to make sure that we had a good time.
OTOH, this group was there in Tampa as well...and were very vocal there too.
hope that your con experience goes better than what you have witnessed at the forums.{{hugs}}
that above commentary is just my .02 worth.

Re: vulkon forums
Date: 2003-09-25 07:41 pm (UTC)see my newest eljay entry or the forum for Fernando's newest attack on me. you know me...i don't bite my tongue. i was completely respectful in the posts that i've made. he is downright rude and unprofessional whether he wants to believe it or not. this is not just my opinion either. i've had several people mention his posts and how they were uncomfortable with them. especially the ones talking about the girls wearing something "slutty" for the dress up ball or whatever. i don't care if he's friends with these people or not. comments like that from the promoter of the con are unacceptable to me. *shrug*

Date: 2003-09-25 07:59 pm (UTC)i went over there and read through the thread.
i could be wrong in who i thought was the problems...
OTOH, if they were just reinstated it is possibly b/c those people, ah who knows why.
i doubt if he is friends with these people.
OTOOH, they do have various connections that perhaps they are just unwilling to lose.
that is just my opinion.
as i stated before, i met this group in Tampa.
scary, and can suck the oxygen out of the room
with their negative outlooks.
i still think that they mistook you for one of the true trouble makers.
off to your other post.
