wait...WHAT?!?!

so i'm never going to see Christopher Eccleston as the doctor again? he made the show. is this what they do every time a season ends? get a new doctor? i don't like it. i want Christopher Eccleston back.

why didn't you people warn me before i got so attached? *sob* oh and while i'm at it, why didn't anyone warn me of the creepiness factor in the "are you my mummy?" episodes? you all know i have zombie fear!! *shaky fist*

Well, we didn't want to spoil you!

And no, this isn't what they do every season, but Christopher Eccleston left because he didn't want to be associated with the role forever and the filming schedule was too strenuous and whatever else.

it was a stipulation before he started..only one season....but all the brits tell me David Trenant is a fine actor and Rose'll be there! We'll find out if we like him or not in "The Christmas Invasion"

I wish Christopher Eccleston would come back too but when I heard he was going to be the Doctor I didn't think he would do it for too long. He's considered one of our best actors over here and I don't think he's ever stayed in one role for too long. I wish he had stayed longer then one season though. David Tennant is a very good actor though. If you ever get to see a mini series called Casanova written by the same person behind the new series of Doctor Who, you can see what he's like.

I second that. Casanova was hilarious. I was very excited to hear that David Tennant would be taking over. CE was great though, and will be missed. But they must go back to get Captain Jack! Poor guy, dead one minute, alive the next, and all alone. Unless the TardisRose brought everyone back... Anyway, have a look for Casanova, it will be worth it.

Oh and it is possible you might see him as the Doctor again. Previous Doctors have come back for special episodes. Its very rare though.

Behold the power of regeneration!

CE was the ninth incarnation.

As a fellow "new" Dr. Who fan...

... I share your anxiety. But all my "old" Dr. Who fan friends tell me that your first regeneration is always like this.

I kind of feel like I've joined a cult. ;-)

But yes, I LOVED CE as The Doctor - he just radiated charisma and energy and positive energy. I've seen him in several other projects, and this is the first time I've been enthralled by him.

But the people who created the new series clearly knew what they were doing when they cast him, so I'm hoping their genius holds out through the regeneration and into season two...

In addition to Rose, another familiar face is supposed to pop up at some point during Season two...

Eccleston was a genius, and only dropped out when talk of cons and his worry of typecasting started up. He told them he'd finish the series and came back for reshooting for the final part of the finale. AKA the birth of doctor #10. Tennant looks to have potential and I am holding out hope. But Eccleston has raised the bar for "the doctor" and leaves a lot to live up to. As he said....

he was fantastic

We are slaves to spoiler avoidance! *g*
The regeneration thing is part of the whole Dr Who history, but I can't remember ever having one incarnation for such a short time - I'm sure they usually last more than one season.
I had the same reaction as you: I very much want CE back as The Doctor and instantly took a dislike to DT. He now has to overcome what I term my 'Riley issues' towards him. I wish him luck: it took Marc Blucas a whole season and two re-runs for me to forgive him for not being Angel *g*

lol are you my mummy? i loved those episodes hilarious fun :) its kinda a prerequisite that dr.who is scary (at least some of the time)
I have to admit i am actually quite glad that eccelston has left i know i am alone in this, but although i loved him as the doctor i don't like him much personally, he has too much of an ego, and if he didn't want to stay as the doctor well goodbye to you mr!
David Tennant was brilliant in Casanova and i think will make an awesome doctor, he is a massive dr.who fan and is really down to earth and funny in person too (of course i know neither of them in real life this is just my perception of them) so i am looking forward big time to "the christmas invasion" I think the 10th doc will sway you round lol!
