Serenity vs Firefly

i just watched the deleted scenes on the Serenity dvd. i have to say, if they had left a lot of those scenes in it would have been much more my movie. don't get me wrong, i loved it. i'm very much glad that Joss got to tell his story. however, River was never my favorite character. neither was Simon. i'm all about Inara, Mal, Wash and Zoe. i want to know more about them. i want to see more of what we did in Firefly with each character getting their fair share of screentime. i think that's why i've got a small, burning hope that this isn't the end. that in the next movie i will get to see more of the characters i love. it's also why i much prefer Firefly over Serenity.

oh and the Re-Lighting the Firefly special feature? made me weepy. i am, indeed, a sap.

Thanks for this. I have the Serenity dvd on the way (don't know if it'll get here for Christmas or not--gift to myself), but I wasn't sure I'd ever even open it. Now, even if I can't bear to watch the movie again, I'll watch the extras.

If you watch them w/ Joss' commentary though, I felt like there were valid reasons for cutting them. Heck, I think most of us would've liked another hour of movie if it meant more story for Inara/Mal, Inara, and Book, but you have to feed the beast and keep momentum going. *shrug*

Watching those deleted scenes made me weepy just thinking about what coulr have been. That little two hour movie was Joss's whole plan for the second season. Twenty-two hours cut to two. I understand why Joss had to delete them. It would have disrupted the crazy pace of the movie. But I love those scenes so and they gave me a glimpse to what might have been. Those scenes would have been apart of the show had it continued. And yea, it just makes me sad. So I just have to keep that hope that it's not completely over...

I didn't get to watch any of the extra stuff since I had to take the movie back, but I plan on renting it again (or just buying it) so that I can see the extras. I really want to get my hands on the DVD's of the series also and watch them all now since I never got to see all of the episodes that aired.

The Serenity extra features made me teary too. There's just so much love around this show. I love how star struck Sean was after seeing all the fans at the comic-con :)

see my favorite scene in the movie was the "why did you leave" mal/Inara scene. I dont know if that was one of the ones on the DVD but when I saw the completed movie I was so pissed about the cutting of it. River's character was one of the main reasons I was so so on the series so I hated that she was the main character of the movie.

that is on there! it was my favorite of the deleted scenes. for people who never saw Firefly i'm sure the whole Mal/Inara thing just flew over their heads and just simply didn't care. if that scene had been left in, it would have not only explained them a little bit to new people, but it also would have thrown existing fans some kind of bone.

i hated that River was the main character too. Joss just really has a thing for waif little girls kicking scary monster's asses.
