Angel gets staked

Just weeks after the drama series Angel celebrated its 100th episode, fans were stunned to hear it had been quietly cancelled by the Warner Bros network. But for its star, David Boreanaz, it was not all bad news after five seasons of playing TV's vampire with a soul.

Were you shocked or surprised when you heard the show was cancelled?
I really wasn't shocked or surprised. This is the way the business is. Like I said when I started the show, I worked on scene to scene, show to show. My commitment to it was 22 episodes each season, and when that's done I'd consider it over. So it was actually a big relief for me and, personally, it gave me a big sense of freedom. I felt like a big weight had been lifted from my shoulders.

Why is that?
When you do 100 episodes and you're carrying a show, it's a lot of pressure. People rely on you for their jobs - the camera people, the craft services people, the lighting people. Yet you really owe it to yourself to examine what's right and what's wrong for you as an artist. I don't owe anybody anything - I owe myself and my family. So for me, I feel like, `Oh, I don't have to hold that cross anymore.' As heavy as it may be or as light as it may be, it's not a negative. It's a good thing!

How did you feel about the petition to save the show?
I felt bad for the fans. When the producers took the show and re-tooled it in a way that took it in a different direction, it should have been the responsibility of the network to put a keen interest into it during that time. So I don't think they handled it in the classiest way. And the fans are the people the network really screwed over.

Will you keep any of the props or memorabilia from the show?
I'll keep a few things, but nothing major. There aren't any of (Angel's) suits I'd wear.

You came back for the end of Buffy. Could Sarah Michelle Gellar come back for the Angel finale?
If it happened it would be great, but I'm not generally in favour of "reunions" because there is no reason to go back. It took a lot to get me to do Buffy. At one point I really didn't want to do it, but as a favour to Sarah I did it.

Is your wife (actress Jaime Bergman) pleased you'll be home more with her and your son?
She's not home that much either now her career is starting to bite. But I do hope to be home more with my wife and son because I'm not on set for nine months of the year. That is one thing about the show I won't miss.

to all of this i say, whatever. ass.

it certainly has always seemed that he thinks he is this awesome actor. i don't get it either. he has like...no range at all. angel is all he is and sometimes he's not even that great at that *g* not that i don't love the character cause i do. but it's just obvious the guy doesn't have any training or further experience and talent. maybe he's just mistaken all the adoring teens drooling over him cause they think he's pretty as admiration for his acting ability.

hmm...

never had much of an opinion of DB, prior to now. but, based on this... he's sort of a fuckwit, 'non? he basically is saying, 'whew, glad that's over!' - which, i'll allow, is his perogative. still... not very nice to the fans. one of those things you should think, but not say.

exactly! plus, i'd love to see what exactly he plans on doing once Angel is over. he has the Crow 4 coming out. oooooh! none of the sequels have been as good as the original with the late great Brandon Lee. he's gonna flop and become a has been. mark my words.

Oh, Boreanaz, must I continue to remind you of Valentine?

I'm telling you. He has a development deal. Carrying the show? A heavy cross? Oh, please.

I think Alexis and Amy should tie him to a chair and make him watch A Hole in the World over and over again.

Then he'd see he wasnt carrying anyone.

ever heard of self-protection? i mean does he has to cry like a baby? I mean he can do that at home and we dont know. Interviews dont show whats really inside his heart. He did the same in some Interviews about Sarah... one time he is like she is such a bitch and other times its like bless Sarah.

I dont know what to think of this interview

Yeesh.

To DB:
Pah! We snub thee! And all the other boys on the show are prettier, so there! Neeeeeener.

*ka-thoop, ping!*

I suppose he probably thinks he can still be Superman or something. To which, I laugh. Hah! Hah! Hah!

Hmmmm...well, I do think DB obviously thinks too much of himself and his abilities, but I can't really be mad at him for saying he's relieved that it's over, in a way. I know they all work insane hours, and with a family that's got to be hard. Plus, as an actor, I'm sure it does get a bit boring playing the same character for 8 years. However, I think he came across as kinda ass-ish here, and I definitely think that if he thinks he's going to find anything better than Angel for him and his career in the future, he's in for an incredibly rude awakening in the upcoming years.

errr .... ummmm ...... tvweek is a bad tabloid magazine. Interviews are taken out of context ... and in general its just shit. Never ever take anything they print to heart or even with any ounce of truth.

the only reason one would buy such magazine is because they lost their tvguide that comes free in the sunday papers. Its not even worth the paper that its printed on. Or the $2.50 that it is (or was - might have gone up) ... Or you have followed the link to their website

But I do hope to be home more with my wife and son because I'm not on set for nine months of the year. That is one thing about the show I won't miss.

And just what is he going to do for money? Does he think he can do movies that will actually earn money? Pffft. Apparently, he's expecting his wife to have all the earning power. What does he think he's going to get for a job, if not an occasional part on some sitcom? *shakes head*

I did like the fact that he acknowledged that the fans got screwed over. That, at least, was more than I've seen from a lot of interviews.

Hm. If he really felt this negative towards the show and the part, why the fuck is he still there? Angel without Angel probably wouldn't be all that bad.

Does he really think he's gonna endear himself to any of the fans with that attitude? "Oh, poor me, I'm an aging former hunk who can't act, and the burden of this show, which was the single greatest opportunity of my career, is just too much to bear. All those people counting on me, me, me. And that damn network screwing over the fans by taking the focus of the show off me, me, me."

Hope he's able to maintain that ludicrously high opinion of himself, cause if he keeps shooting his mouth off like that, all he's gonna have left is his own high opinion.

I can understand why david is saying that.. The WB treats angel like shit eversince they canceled buffy they keep playing all these games. Every year its like, ARE WE COMING BACK?

I think it was very stupid of him to say what he is saying. A lot of fans are fighting to get it to stay on the air. So now he's screwing the fans over which is not cool.
