according to 90% of the posts on my flist today, i'm stupid or i suck. all righty then. i'll try to remember that.

here's a tip, just because someone doesn't share the same views that you do does not mean that they are a bad person. differences is what makes the world go 'round. if we were all the same this would be a very boring world. certainly not one i'd want to live in.

quite frankly i am offended by some of the posts i've seen from people i consider friends. if Kerry had won, i would not be calling the people who voted for him stupid. i would wonder why they voted for him since i never understood his appeal. other than him being "anyone but Bush" for a lot of people. BUT i would never have insulted my friends that voted for him.

just food for thought.

personally, i would have sooner voted for screamin' Dean than anyone else. but that's just my two measly cents.

Hon, with all due respect -- your candidate won, theirs didn't. Try and cut them a little slack for today. It's not like they have hidden their opinions for the past several months, and this has been, at least from my perspective, a very emotional and hard fought campaign. Politics can bring out very vehement responses, and I don't think that you should take what is being said too personally.

Hope you are feeling better everyday, btw.

I have no affiliation and hate all politicians equally. I can complain about whichever government comes in here or there because I would complain WHOEVER got into power.

This is just me saying that I would in no way judge anyone on their beliefs or standpoint, coz frankly doing THAT seems a lil stupid.

also? You're in no way stupid or sucky. so there.

I made my post private. All I really said was "WHY WOULD ANYONE VOTE FOR BUSH?!?!" but it was offending people. AND I'm an outsider. So. Privatized. It's your choice, and I don't need to understand it.

I don't agree with the "omg Bush won therefore most Americans are stupid!" sentiment either. Yet that's what I've been reading all over LJ today. Quite frankly, I'll be happy when this election stuff is over. I realized yesterday that I know NOTHING about Canadian politics but I'm always debating about American politics because it's ALL OVER the internet and our news and EVERYWHERE. And that's not a good thing.

I don't pretend to know the first thing about American politics, and my views - limited as they are - are pretty much based on what I learn from international news reports, but I was surprised that Bush was re-elected: I'd been led to believe that support for him had drastically reduced.
But then, that happened here when Blair was re-elected, too.
Perhaps it's just as well I'm not politically minded.

I agree with you on the 'differences make the world go round' view. It would be mind-numbingly boring if we were all the same.
*hugs*

The Dems not only got beat but bad and when they were expecting to win. Bush got 58 million votes, the vast majority of the states and so far only NH flipped to the Dems from last election.

What you're seeing is shock. Dems are wondering where all these Rep. votes came from. IMO, Dems are a vocal bunch, whether it be on the internet or everyday life. Reps. don't challenge them, they keep to themselves. You never know how many people really are Rep. They're like the people who buy Backstreet Boys CDs. No one ever admits buying them but they go platinum every time.

That is precisely the point I was trying to make in my journal... It really pisses me off to see people being so MEAN about it. I mean, I in no way supported Bush, I voted for Kerry, but I'm saddened and offended by 90% of the things I am reading this morning. People I love and respect... you, my sister, etc etc... voted for Bush and that's your right. I might not agree with your choice, but I have to respect it. Many of the Kerry supporters have blasted Bush for wanting to take our rights away, but to me, judging anyone who voted for him so harshly is pretty hypocritical. After all, part of the responsibility in living in a free country like the US is respecting the opinions of others, even if we vehemently disagree with them.

*plink plink*

This all really makes me want to hide from the internet for, like, a month.

I hope things I have written did not come across as bashing Bush supporters. *hugs* I didn't vote for Bush, I am not happy with the results, but I would never bash someone's right to their opinion or vote.

A lot of my friends are Bush supporters. I didn't mean to offend in my post, but it was the culmination of heartbreak and still not understanding why any of my friends support Bush. I respect it, but no one has given me a straightforward explanation why.

would you like my reasons? they are strightforward, uncomplicated, and reflective of me:

he supports the state of israel.
he believes, knows, understands and has lived through a terrorist attack on his watch.
his beliefs mirror mine in some very important ways.
i wouldn't trust john kerry to lead a parade, let alone a country.

are my reasons inadequate? no, they are mine, and therefore valid NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE THINKS OR UNDERSTANDS.

you don't have to understand why one person votes one way and another the other way. what does need to happen is that everyone needs to understand that the people have spoken. and the election, thankfully is over.

I don't really care if I offend or offended people. Voting for Bush was a bad choice. In so many ways.

I made my post public so I would be sure my dad read it too.

there are plenty of ways for people to express their opinion without resorting to namecalling people who voted differently than they did. all that shows to me is their character. i'm mindful enough to know that there are plenty of people on my flist who were voting differently than i and i never would have treated them the way i am being treated right now.

you know that old saying "with friends like these who needs enemies"? that's kind of how i feel right now.

that's a great attitude. you shouldn't care about offending "people", but you sure as hell should care if you've offended people you call friends.

I categorize friends as people. And I will repeat that I don't care if I offend people. I don't need you to tell me who I should care about offending. They should be offended. They are offensive. I'm ashamed that people I call friends make such ignorant decisions, especially since intelligence is one of the traits I value the most in people.

well...since you are so incapable of being considerate of my views, i don't feel the need to have you on my friend's list any longer. i don't need someone there who thinks i'm offensive and ignorant because of the way i voted.

so consider yourself defriended.

Just so you know, it's not because of the way you voted. It's because I assume you voted that way because your opinions on social matters, religiously based and biased, outweigh your concern with the envronment, womens rights, gay rights, intelligence, health care, education, and a variety of other things more important than legislating religious beliefs.

If I am wrong in assuming you voted that way for those reasons, then your vote was, uninformed, you really didn't deserve to vote in the first place, and you disgust me completely.

This isn't about living in a la-de-da situation where you respect everyone because everyone deserves to be repsected and everyone has opinions as important and valid as everyone else. Just because you think pi should be 3 doesn't make it 3. Just because you think something doesn't make it okay, and no one has to repect what you think, just your right to think it.

Bye.

you are quite the piece of work. my vote was neither based on my religious leanings nor because i was uninformed. they were based on things i heard from both candidates. just goes to show that you know nothing about the person that i am.

have a nice life, kelly.

I didn't base my vote on religious beliefs or ignorance either. Because you think something doesn't make it true. I have my reasons for supporting the war, and others of Bush's policies. If you honestly believe that that makes me ignorant and wrong, simply because you say so, you have just a little bit too high opinion of an opinion of yourself.

I don't know you very well, but you've always seemed to be a compasionate and intelligent person. Right now? You sound like an arrogant, snobbish, deluded little girl. grow up.

Defriended as well. I'm sure you won't lose any sleep.

Sorry, Christy. Screen this if you'd like.

I have to say that I would hate to think I was offending anyone I consider a friend, as it is I have never viewed my opinions about the vote. But if I could have voted, I would have voted for Kerry! And I was shocked and stunned that Bush got voted back in. I think of him in much the same way as the majority of Europe, although he came across as a lot more intelligent in the election debates than I would have thought previously I still do not think he is the right man for the job, and I hope that you can respect that as my opinion because its said in honesty and I don't like to lie to a friend even if it might unintentionally hurt them.
It’s not like I think all people that voted for him are stupid as you clearly prove the point they aren't just that I do not agree with many of his policies and it surprises me that so many people do! I also deeply dislike the way he advertises himself as a messenger from god as I believe that religion and politics shouldn't mix in such a blatant way and am pleased they don't here. I can say I wish Kerry had won I thought his policies showed more merit, but since he didn't I can only accept what is reality rather than dwell on what might have been and hope that it will be better second time round. I know that you probably don’t agree with me but then this is unfortunately one of those times where we will have to agree to disagree. Barbara xx
