i just want to clarify something. while i voted for Bush, there are definitely things that he supports that i don't. his views on abortion, gay marriage, etc for instance. however, i don't believe that he will be able to affect those things. he's not the be all end all to laws that are passed in this country. that is why we have congress.

the reason i didn't vote for Kerry is because of what i heard from him. which was pretty much a whole lot of nothin'. he didn't lay out his plans for presidency, he flip flopped on issues that were brought up, and he just didn't strike me as a very positive leader of the free world. he seems weak to me and America does not need to seem weak right now. there's too much going on in the world around us for that.

i'm with [livejournal.com profile] denisef on this one. if you think i'm "stupid" or "moronic" or any other negative adjective you can think of because of the way i cast my vote, remove me from your friend's list now. i don't have the time nor inclination to deal with people who are completely incapable of being respectful of my views. also? i reserve the right to bitch about things that are going wrong in my country at any time. that is my right as an American. don't like it? then like i said, remove me. i won't say there won't be hard feelings because you can bet your ass there will be.

Outlawing gay marriage seems to be happening on a state level, so while I don't think he can do much about it directly, his support affects that. Abortion, you're right, that is a different matter.

Just out of interest, because I have no clue on how much the US media reports on this, etc - how do you think Bush is currently perceived by the rest of the world?

Waving... Fellow Republican here, maybe a bit less liberal than you, but one who also voted for Bush (and feeling more than a little spat upon, sneered at, and insulted today).

I applaud your choice to speak up about this, because I feel the same way. Most of the places I visit on the web are peopled with Democrats, and the comments I've seen about "neo-cons" and Republicans in the last two months have turned my stomach. I would never devalue someone I consider a friend because of their political philosophy. And I can only imagine what would have happened to me if I had gone to some of my usual haunts and posted the vicious and derogatory comments about liberals that I've seen regularly posted about conservatives.

Also? Glad you're healing, and hope the scar awasn't infected. I tried to post a comment last night and LJ ate it, and then I conked out because waiting for election results gave me a ginormous headache. {{{hugs}}}

What I've noticed from reading lj today is that the Republicans on my list have not been posting celebratory messages on their lj- i'm guessing this is because the republicans are being sensitive about the feelings of democrats on your list. Or because most of my list is pinko-commie liberals.

It's probably the latter, isn't it? *g*

You voted- you exercised your democratic rights, despite having a lot going on in your personal life. That means you can bitch about what you want.

Tiggz, FWIW, I am gonna provide you with a link to another republican, a friend of a friend (Farscape Fandom) who has strong opinions.

Here is her take on the online democratic response

I hope I haven't offended by providing this link.

*smootch*

I know I myself may be frustrated with the outcome, but I know I'm not gonna go on a crazy defriending spree just because people I like voted for the other guy. Not that I *get* it. But it doesn't matter whether I get it or not, yes?

Also, healy-{{{vibes}}} for your tum-tum.

I'm not sure you'll get this. I am not a live journal user - but my g/f is one of your LJ Friends. I view things here occaisionally. Most of her friends are - as you say - negative adjective oriented.

You should be proud of your strength of conviction. Not many here, it seems, are very tolerant of anything less than the most liberal of positions. Hold your head up!

I think you're wrong, at least about the abortion issue. There are several Supreme Court justices getting ready to retire from the bench, and Bush can now fill the slots with judges who are pro-life. And since Congress now also has a republican majority, they're sure to get confirmed.

Just wanted to let you know that this lifelong, Massachusetts liberal Democrat is APPALLED at the personal insults and rhetoric coming from so many in her soon-to-be former party.

People voted. Bush won. Everyone just needs to deal with it. Good lord.

I didn't vote but in my opinion, I wouldn't have voted for any of them. I only agreed with a few of each of their views and they still didn't impress me.

My friend voted for Bush but was afraid to tell anyone because of something like this. And it's a shame. And I really don't see what the big deal about it is. It's like that Kelly person is blaming one person. When you weren't the only one that voted for Bush. It wasn't just up to you.

Until Bush screws up incredibly in the next four years, stop bitching. That's the way I see it.

Why do we get 50 choices for Miss America but only 2 for President?
