Batman Begins

i'm not a comic book lover in the least. in fact, when certain people go on and on about them i tend to roll my eyes and tune them out. that being said, i know pretty much nothing about the Batman lore. so i can't comment on what they did or didn't get right about it.
this movie? is the best comic book based movie i have ever seen. it never once incorporated the hokey vibe that most comic movies like to employ. it was dark, yet had comedy interspersed throughout. it was actually a really perfect blend of the two. color me impressed.
bruce was an excellent mixture of serious, snarky, funny and sweet. christian bale has totally become my favorite batman. it doesn't hurt that he's easy on the eyes. ;) i adored michael caine's alfred and morgan freeman's fox. they had some of the best lines. also gary oldman's "i've gotta get me one of those." because i was totally thinking the same thing. that car is awesome!
there were so many big names in this movie. i'm thoroughly impressed that no one stole the show.
the one thing i could have lived without? the zombie-like movements/reactions after the poisonous gases were released. zombies and i don't mix. really.
thanks to everyone for their input in my poll. my dad and i couldn't make up our minds because we wanted to see both. maybe Mr. and Mrs. Smith will be next week. oh and i was very disappointed that i didn't get a Serenity preview.

Date: 2005-06-19 03:33 am (UTC)Yeah, as I may have hinted earlier, its actually a really good movie. For me it transcended the source material. It didn't matter to me that Batman was an established Comic Book Hero or whatever... the story was told well and the movie worked.
Tim Burton's 1989 Batman will likely forever remain one of my Favourite Films Ever (I just love it love it love it!) but I'm thinking that Batman Begins is prehaps - especially in the current day and age - a better movie. Maybe. *g* It was certianly a wonderful re-invention of the franchise (PLEASE let there be more) that was spurred by Burton's film and ruined by Schumacher.
If you fancy Brad Pitt or the Jolie girl do go and see the Smith movie.... Hmmm, actually in some ways it would maybe have made more sense to see Mr & Mrs Smith first... because if its the next Movie you go see after BB, it may fall flat in certain areas! :)
Its a great fun film though. And Brad Pitt is really kinda sexy.

Heck, I know we'll be in Disney, but they have a HUGE AMC 30 at Downtown Disney. Maybe we can see a flick one night if we're not ready to sleep and the parks are closed. :)

Date: 2005-06-19 03:45 pm (UTC)it's not an exact retelling of the lore (lucious fox's role and alfred getting the money among other things) but it was a very good adaptation. nolan did an amazing job with the story and the producers did right by casting people that could pull it off. mt favorite actors were goldman and murphy. man, when crane came on screen as dr. crane your skin crawled. it was all in his eyes. you could see it. that's good acting.
did the last 10 minutes just rock your world? i think that's more for the fans though. and gordon's line about more crazies is right out of the current comic books. they're diving into that right now.

Date: 2005-06-19 06:39 pm (UTC)i think the best line has got to be "whats the use of doing all those pushups if you can't even lift a piece of wood?" oh god, Alfred, you kill me.

Date: 2005-06-20 12:18 am (UTC)There isn't anything about it that I didn't like. The look, the sound, the acting. And you're right--Christian Bale made the part.
I can't stop raving about this.
Also, I didn't get a Serenity trailer, either. *pout*
